For some reason on Mother's Day I expected magical fairies to arrive and clean my whole house, cook a fabulous meal and let me take a long afternoon slumber. Well, yesterday was full of joys and disappointments. I didn't get to sleep in, Finn woke up with a bad cold, I always nurse in bed and we all usually snuggle until he's finished. On this particular morning Finn slept in until 6:17 (JOY!) with a super bad cold. His face was a snotty mess, poor little dude. While nursing I noticed all of a sudden he's wet, I'm wet, the bed's wet. Yup, his diaper leaked or something was pointed in the wrong direction. (BUMMMER.) So I get up to change our sheets, his sheets (because a night with a bad cold makes the sheets of a little one not so pleasant.)
Joy #1 I'm mother to this little dude.
and wife to this wonderful man, who made me a wonderful homemade card and a gift certificate for a massage (JOY!)
It was a bummer that right as I stepped out the door to church (Jared stayed home with Finn) it started raining. I had envisioned us going on a nice bike ride after we all took long naps and while the bread was rising and the spaghetti sauce was simmering. YA RIGHT!
My dutch oven bread didn't rise, the texture was still wonderful and it tasted good...it might have been because I didn't use bread flour (I was all out.) I'll try it again later this week.
My spaghetti turned out well and Finn downed it.
And the lime cake with blackberry sauce I made was just the perfect thing to end my day, just light enough to keep you from feeling like a glutton before bed.
All in all I figure that the past few months have been scattered with many mother's day. Why you ask? Well, Jared has helpfully taken care of Finn and me (and given up his usual trip to the gym) on several mornings while I endured morning sickness...yes you heard right, we've got another baby on it's way D-Day is Nov. 11th.

AAAAaaaAAAaa! Alice! Congratulations! Finn and peanut are lucky kids to have a mother like you. You are amazing! I need to call you but I've lost your number, e-mail it to me??
Congrats, Alice! You will LOVE having two kiddos close in age. I've loved having my first two close. It's like they have grown up together (the oldest doesn't remember life without the other) and are best buddies. The two-kid diaper changes are well worth the fun that comes along with having them close :) Happy day!!
Congrats! That is so exciting! I loved this post, and totally didn't expect a baby announcement on the tail end... by the way, my last baby was born 11/11 too. It's a great bday! You are going to love having 2!!
